Tamarindo's central position in Costa Rica's central coasts make it the best place to go to in Costa Rica if you are in for some serious surfing. This is because a surfer in Tamarindo has all the access to a variety of surf breaks for all ability levels.
Tamarindo Bay is divided into three main beaches, namely, Playa Tamarindo, Playa Grande, and Playa Langosta.
The central position of the surfing mecca puts it between the world famous break of Playa Negra to the south and Witches Rock to the north. It also allows a surfer to test out the most number of breaks in the least possible time, making it more efficient as a starting point for all surfers. Thus it is unsurprising that most surfers have, indeed, chosen to start their trips here. Hotels and other inns are quite abundant here as well.
Year after year, Tamarindo attracts a great number of divers, fishing hobbyists, nature lovers and, of course, surfers. The great influx of tourists every year to this surfing town makes the previous visitors go for another location during their next vist, where there is more peace. Furthermore, developers have recently established a numbr of sub-quality infrastructure in place, including black water treatment, probably due to the rush need for new amenities. Today, the beaches of Tamarindo are still considered to be clean by international standards.
During the night, after all the diving and all the surfing have already finished, it's time to listen to the various musicians who play in Tamarindo's various bars and restaurants on a semi-regular basis.
For the surfing enthusiasts, here's a Tamarindo Surf Report and Forecast page that I found online. It can be highly helpful in your decision when to arrive here for your surfing trip.
