It's not the spiciest fare, but rich with fresh produce like black beans and plantains, which may be part of all three meals. Plantains are like bananas, but less sweet, so you can actually eat them at every meal, but bananas are common in meals too, even fried bananas. The traditional lunch dish is casado, which is beans and rice (not mixed), usually served with chicken, pork or carne asada,) along with a salad. Plantains, cheese or tortillas are common, so make sure you try them if you get a chance. Be sure to try the picadillo, which is a spiced meat and veggie combo. Fresh veggies are rounded out nicely with peppers, onion, potato and a variety of squashes and corn (sometimes as tortillas, soup, or otherwise).
